EMI Calculator – Calculate Your Monthly EMI

Buying a home appliance or consumer durable on EMI is common in India — but many buyers focus only on the monthly instalment amount without understanding the total interest they’ll pay over the loan period. Our EMI Calculator shows you the exact monthly EMI, total interest payable, and total cost of the purchase before you commit, so you can compare loan offers and choose smartly.

How to Use the EMI Calculator

  1. Enter the loan/purchase amount — the price of the appliance or the loan principal in rupees.
  2. Enter the interest rate — check your bank’s offer or the store’s No Cost EMI terms. Enter the annual rate (% per annum).
  3. Select the loan tenure — typically 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, or 24 months for appliance financing.
  4. Click Calculate to see your monthly EMI, total interest, and total repayment amount.
  5. Compare different tenures to find the best balance between monthly outflow and total interest paid.

EMI Formula Used in This Calculator

The calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ [(1+r)ⁿ – 1] — where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of monthly instalments. This is the same formula used by all Indian banks and NBFCs.

Is No Cost EMI Actually Free?

Not always. With genuine No Cost EMI offers, the brand or retailer absorbs the interest cost — you pay exactly the product price split across months. However, some “No Cost EMI” offers discount the GST input credit or inflate the original MRP slightly to cover the financing cost. Always compare the EMI scheme price vs. outright price and check if a cash/UPI discount is available before choosing EMI.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMI and how does it work?

EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) is a fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan. Each instalment includes a portion of the principal and the interest charged for that month. In early months, more of the EMI goes toward interest; in later months, more goes toward principal. This is called reducing-balance or amortised repayment.

What is the difference between flat rate and reducing balance EMI?

In a flat rate loan, interest is calculated on the original principal throughout the entire tenure — making the effective interest rate much higher than stated. In a reducing-balance EMI (used by banks and most NBFCs), interest is calculated only on the outstanding balance, which decreases each month. Always ask lenders which method they use — reducing balance is always cheaper for the same advertised rate.

How do I reduce my EMI amount?

You can reduce EMI by: (1) making a larger down payment to reduce the principal, (2) choosing a longer tenure — though this increases total interest, (3) negotiating a lower interest rate, or (4) opting for No Cost EMI offers where available. For appliances, many brands on Amazon, Flipkart, and offline stores offer No Cost EMI with certain credit cards.

Is it better to pay cash or choose EMI for appliances?

If a genuine No Cost EMI offer is available (₹0 additional cost), EMI is equally good as cash — and you preserve liquidity. If EMI has an interest cost, compare the total interest against any return you’d earn by keeping that money invested. For high-value appliances like ACs and refrigerators, No Cost EMI from brands like LG, Samsung, or Whirlpool is often genuinely free on select cards.

Does taking appliance EMI affect my credit score?

Yes, any loan shows up on your CIBIL/credit report. On-time EMI payments actually improve your credit score over time. Missing payments or defaulting damages your score. For small appliance EMIs (under ₹50,000), the impact on credit score is modest — but always set up auto-debit to ensure payments are never missed.

Can I foreclose or prepay an appliance loan EMI?

Most bank-issued consumer durable loans allow foreclosure after a minimum lock-in period (typically 3–6 months), sometimes with a small foreclosure charge (0%–3% of outstanding amount). NBFCs and in-store financing may have stricter terms. Always read the loan agreement before signing. Foreclosing early saves you the remaining interest amount.
